The search for a viable replacement to Cisco's CSA has resulted in frustration for many CSA customers, either taking a backseat to other projects or wasting precious time and resources looking at inadequate solutions. Matrix gets it. Time and again we've seen existing CSA customers seeking the same levels of protection and control provided to them by CSA for years that they have been happy with and depended on. If you have just started your CSA replacement search or if you are frustrated after looking at and rejecting many products that claim that they can replace CSA and feel like giving up and accepting a poor replacement option you have found the right resource to help you. This white paper is intended as a roadmap for CSA users to identify the key features of CSA that they must have in a replacement security product and the best available options including StormShield the new leader in endpoint behavioral protection.

With the DroidDream malware discovery in March, and then Pandora's vulnerabilities identified in April, the inevitable happened: 2011 become the 'year of mobile malware'. All the pieces of the malware ecosystem puzzle that researchers have been warning about are falling into place. Modern mobile applications run on devices that have the functionality of a desktop or laptop running a general-purpose operating system. While many of the risks are similar to those of traditional spyware, Trojan software, and insecurely designed apps, mobile devices aren't just small computers. They're designed around personal and communication functionality which makes the top mobile application risks different from the top traditional computing risks.
In this presentation, Veracode's Vice President of Security Research, Chris Eng, will outline the Top 10 Mobile Application Risks, designed to educate developers and security professionals about the mobile application behavior - both maliciously- designed or inadvertent - putting users at risk.

In this special education supplement, SC Magazine examines the importance of specialized classes and certifications versus work experience, while a case study profiles how a public school system in New Jersey fulfilled a need to expand its broadband capacity and, at the same time, brought increased security to its network operations. Additionally, for the fourth year, we ask some of the universities designated by the NSA and DHS as Centers of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance about their programs.

A key technical underpinning of the Cloud is the Application Programming Interface (API). APIs provide consistent methods for outside entities such as web services clients and desktop applications to interface with services in the Cloud. More and more, it will be through APIs that cloud data moves; however, the security and scalability of APIs are currently threatened by a problem called the password anti-pattern - the need for one API to collect and replay the password for a user at another API in order to access information on behalf of that user. OAuth defeats the password anti-pattern, creating a consistent, flexible identity and policy architecture for web applications, web services, devices, and desktop clients attempting tocommunicate with Cloud APIs.

Today's most dangerous cyber threats to businesses are known as Advanced Persistent Threats (APT). Custom-built to target and steal a specific company's sensitive data, APT are almost always invisible to traditional network security technologies. Understanding how your organization can efficiently defend against APT through effective strategies and proven counter technologies is a critical component for companies in highly-competitive global markets. This data sheet will provide a brief overview of how to successful manage APT.

One of the biggest challenges in information security is Identity and Access Management (IdM). How do you control who has access to what systems and technology within your enterprise? This problem becomes even more difficult in the public cloud. The ability to control the technology is limited and it's difficult to leverage tools such as single sign on/federation products. This paper provides best-practices for overcoming the challenges involved with safely and securely managing your users within public as well as private clouds.

A Next-Generation IPS (NGIPS) offers a logical and essential progression of capabilities needed to protect networks from emerging threats. Pioneered by SourcefireŽ, and now endorsed by Gartner, the NGIPS builds on typical IPS solutions by providing contextual awareness-about network activity, systems and applications, people, and more-to promptly assess threats, ensure a consistent and appropriate response, and reduce an organization's security expenditures.
The purpose of this paper is:
. To describe why NGIPS is critical in defending against today's threat landscape
. To list the essential ingredients of a NGIPS solution, as defined by Gartner
. To map Gartner's requirements against Sourcefire's NGIPS offering
. To contrast Sourcefire's NGIPS against a typical, first-generation IPS

In today's Windows environment, end users are accustomed to having local administrator privileges which allow them to download a variety of applications and potentially misconfigure their PCs. While standard wisdom may be to simply solve the problem by revoking local administrator rights on users' systems, the reality is that this may not be an option at all organizations. Fortunately, there's hope for IT administrators seeking to gain control over the Windows environment while still offering local admin rights to the user base - through application whitelisting.
